Caryn Chavarria

Caryn Chavarria is a multimedia artist and high school art teacher based in Maryland. Raised in Silver Spring, Caryn graduated from the University of Maryland in 2017 with a Master's degree in Art Education and has been teaching digital art, photography, and ceramics for the past 8 years. In her artistic practice, Caryn blends traditional art forms with digital media. Her photography often serves as a foundation for drawings or paintings, which then inspire her digital work. Caryn’s art is shaped by memories, portraiture, and identity as she explores emotion, unity, movement, and color. A key influence on her art is her synesthesia, which causes her to perceive colors in response to sounds, emotions, or other stimuli. As a result, her work is defined by an eclectic and colorful style, featuring bold and expressive palettes. Lastly, as a Latina artist, Caryn draws inspiration from her Nicaraguan heritage, incorporating cultural motifs, stories, and color traditions into her work. Through it all, she aims to celebrate complexity, connection, and the beauty of seeing the world differently.
